Description
The French word, “Vivant”, the name originally used by Jules Steiner to describe his legendary Bébé Gigoteur, is aptly used as the title of this important doll collection. For although Dorothy McGonagle has been known for decades as one of America’s most prominent researchers and authors, it is, in particular, her landmark book, The Dolls of Jules Steiner, published in 1988, that is her living legacy. And the collection is, indeed, “vivant”, alive and vibrant with rarities, charmers, unexpected delights. Also included is the Bernice Millman Collection featuring French bébés, German characters to Kathe Kruse, and, of course, Kamkins. There are over 400 lots in this important two-day auction. 8.5" x 11". Softbound.
